Matt and Micah Glover grew up in a legalistic religion that prioritized works-based faith over a relationship with Jesus. They both feared that they would lose God’s blessing if they sinned too much. This legalistic influence led both brothers to run away from God for a period of their lives.

The twins’ dad was a pastor at the same church for 52 years. Matt said, “We got really good at hiding stuff because you don’t want to bring shame on the family. That’s what legalism makes you do.”

After Micah realized that Jesus offered something better than a works-based religion, he found freedom from legalism in a personal relationship with Jesus. He began praying for Matt to find the same freedom. He knew that if God did not intervene in Matt’s life, he would die.

When Matt recognized his need for God, his head knowledge about Christ finally penetrated his heart. He surrendered his life to Jesus and asked Him to take over. His relationship with Jesus has transformed his life and his brother’s life and freed them from legalism.

The brothers realized Jesus didn’t come to save the religious; He came for the lost and the dying. He went out of His way to find those people. Jesus is better because He did what we could not do in human flesh.
