Rob Poettgen was born and raised Catholic. His faith was more about checking boxes than having a personal relationship with Jesus. He viewed God as a distant being, not someone who wanted a personal relationship with him. He thought he had to work to earn God’s favor and love.

When he and his wife started attending a Baptist church in Texas, he realized God desired his heart, not his righteous actions. He went from thinking he had to appease God to surrendering his life and building a personal relationship.

“It excites me to know that I have to be filled up with Christ before I can model Him properly…He’s going to use the depth of my relationship with Him to pour out of me into my wife and children.”

Rob’s daughter, Olivia, shares how her parents have modeled what it looks like to have a personal relationship with Jesus. Her testimony of her parents’ influence portrays the power of praying over your children and teaching them to love Jesus.

“The freedom in Jesus is so much better because when you’re faced against a standard you can’t live up to, it only leads to exhaustion, frustration, and even resentment of a God who loves you and wants to be with you.”
