Jane Carmichael never knew anything but the Church of Christ. Growing up in St. Louis, Missouri, she regularly visited Independence, Missouri, with her mother and sister for conferences and reunions.  

As a teenager, she decided that coming back just for conferences and reunions wasn’t enough. She got married, moved to Independence, and found a community of people she could worship with. She says, “It was a dream come true.”  

Throughout much of her adult life, she religiously followed all the rules in the Book of Mormon. However, when some friends invited her to Bible Study Fellowship (BSF), she began to see how the Bible and the Book of Mormon conflicted. She learned that we are saved by grace through faith, not because of our works.  

She begged Jesus to allow her into His Kingdom and reveal what she should do with the information she read. As she prayed, the Holy Spirit revealed the pride in her heart, and she repented.  

“I thought I knew the truth. I was very wrong. I believed a lie.”  

Once Jane started following Jesus, she lost many of the friends she had made in the Church of Christ. However, the Lord provided people for her and her husband to worship and grow with at Abundant Life.  

“The Lord knows the desires of our hearts, and that is to worship with people we love. We’ve found that at Abundant Life, and He has restored that to our lives. He’s worthy of praise, and He’s worthy of the title “Jesus is better!”
