The Four Cords of Biblical Community are inspired by Mark 2:1–12, where four friends carried a friend in need to Jesus. When they found the house too crowded to enter, they tore through the roof and lowered their friend down. We think they might have used four cords! At Abundant Life we see this as a powerful picture of community. There are times in life where we need others to carry us to Jesus, and at other times we are the ones called to bring people to Him.
1. Belong Intentionally: Find community to make a big church feel small.
2. Engage Relationally: Grow your relationships with the body of believers by practicing hospitality and investing in one another.
3. Share Openly: Be real and transparent. Carry each other’s burdens and celebrate each other’s joys. Authenticity and openness will invite trust and friendship.
4. Respond Biblically: Make God’s Word our source for decisions, guidance, and encouragement.
Whether you meet in your living room in a circle or play golf together in an Interest Group, here are the three things we’d like to see happen in a Group:
• Have intentional fellowship
• Make application to the messages preached by asking good questions
• Pray for each other's needs and leadership
A group leader is a facilitator who asks good questions (sermon discussion questions) to draw out conversation. They have an eye for hospitality and shepherd our flock to pray for each other's needs and leadership.
