God is the creator of all life, and the gift of life is precious. God calls believers to uphold the dignity of human life from conception to natural death. Additionally, young people facing gender confusion need to be assured of their identity in Christ and understand that God made them purposefully.
On November 3, Missouri voters will be asked their opinion on Amendment 3, which seeks to restrict abortion and prohibit gender-transition procedures for minors. This is an opportunity for believers to vote based on Biblical values and to shine a light in our dark culture.
As the election draws close, it is time for Christians to pray that the value and sanctity of life will be upheld in Missouri, and it’s also a time to inform others about this measure and the importance of voting.
Provisions of Amendment 3
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” — Jeremiah 1:5
On November 3, Missouri voters will be asked to vote on numerous issues, including Amendment 3.
If passed, the amendment would do the following:
- Repeal a measure Missouri voters passed in 2024 that amended the state constitution to permit abortion. Measures regarding the legality of abortion have arisen at the state level since the 2022 Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case. That case overturned Roe vs. Wade and effectively left issues of abortion legality up to the states.
- Prohibit abortion except in cases of medical emergency, fetal anomaly, rape, or incest. In cases of rape or incest, abortion would be allowed only during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.
- Require parental or guardian consent for minors seeking abortions.
- Allow women to access care for miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies.
- Prohibit gender transition surgeries for minors as well as prohibit prescribing cross-sex hormones and puberty-blocking drugs for minors except for cases of medically verifiable disorders of sex development.
Such issues of life are close to the heart of God, and He calls believers to stand up for the unborn who don’t have a voice for themselves.

A Christian View of Unborn Life
“For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are Your works and that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You when I was made in secret and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed and in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me when as yet there were none of them.” — Psalm 139:13-16
God is the author and creator of all life, and He has made everyone intentionally. The Bible is also clear that life begins even before birth, and God already knows the plans He has for our lives while we are still inside our mother’s womb. Science also makes it clear that life begins at conception as we continue to learn amazing aspects of how babies develop in the womb.
For these reasons, abortion breaks God’s heart. As Christians, what breaks God’s heart should break ours, too. As we grieve over the loss of life due to abortion, we must also remember that opposing abortion never means ignoring women in crisis. In fact, it means being willing to stand with them and offer loving, compassionate support.
As Christians, we should be the first to come alongside women facing an unplanned pregnancy, offering them love and meeting their practical needs. Organizations like Resource Health work to ensure both men and women in difficult situations understand God’s love for them and their unborn child.
There are many ways to support women facing unplanned pregnancies and families in crisis, including:
- Volunteering at Resource Health and other life-affirming organizations.
- Donating money to Resource Health and other life-affirming organizations.
- Get involved in Abundant Life’s foster and adoption ministry.
- Pay attention to needs in your own family, neighborhood, and community, and step up when an opportunity arises to support someone you know going through an unplanned pregnancy.
Our society frames abortion as primarily a political issue, but abortion and Amendment 3 aren’t fundamentally a political issue. They are Biblical and spiritual issues.
Maintaining a Biblical View on Gender
“God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” — Genesis 1:27
The enemy is working hard to stir up confusion in our society, and he’s working especially hard to make young people confused about their gender.
God’s design for creation includes men and women made in His image. He has made everyone on purpose and for a purpose, and He created everyone as male or female for a reason. Any young person facing confusion should be assured of God’s ultimate love for them and how He has a wonderful plan for their lives as He created them.
Amendment 3 also includes provisions to prohibit gender-transition surgeries for minors and the prescribing of cross-sex hormone and puberty-blocking drugs for minors. These provisions help protect minors from irreversible physical harm.
How Christians Should Approach Their Vote
It’s critical that the church take a stand to protect innocent human life and for Christians in Missouri to vote “Yes” on Amendment 3.
It’s also important to remember that efforts to legalize and normalize abortion in our culture are ultimately spiritual warfare.
Ephesians 6:12 says, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
Let’s remember we aren’t fighting against political enemies. Those seeking to expand the legality and availability of abortion and gender-transition procedures for minors aren’t our real adversary.
We can firmly stand up for the truth of Biblical values with compassion and grace. Our conversations on these issues should reflect the heart of Jesus and be full of both truth and love.
It’s also critical that we make sure women who have had abortions know that God offers them His perfect forgiveness and love. God has the power to redeem anyone and forgive every sin. We can share how Jesus offers us reconciliation to the Father, and there is new life in Christ.
Takeaway: Vote and then Serve
Christians in Missouri need to be informed about Amendment 3 so they can vote with Biblical values in mind and inform others about the issues at stake. It’s time for believers to have intentional conversations with others and share about God’s heart for the unborn and the importance of voting “Yes” on Amendment 3 on November 3.
Yet voting is only the beginning. There is much work to be done in our country to promote a culture of life. Praying for genuine revival and awakening is a first step, and serving those in difficult situations is also critical to developing a culture that truly values the unborn.
